Programs

Boxing

Irving PAL started the boxing program in 1992 and it is the oldest of our PAL programs. Our program produces championship boxers that win state, regional and national titles on a consistent basis. A major part of our boxers' success is attributed to the strong support of their parents, coaches and peers at Irving PAL. All participants wanting to join the boxing program must register and attend the Fitness Class to be considered. Coach Solis may waive this requirement with prior approval. Boxing Schedule - Monday thru Friday; 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Coordinator: Rosario Solis

Fitness Class

Irving PAL's fitness class is the entry level class for most of our participants. Our kids train for 1 1/2 hours, both inside and outside the gym, with water breaks given periodically. Exercises include the use of jump ropes, medicine balls, box jumps, weights and pull up bars. Running is an essential part of fitness and about 30 minutes is devoted for this cardiovascular exercise. Participants should dress accordingly depending on the weather. Fitness Schedule - Monday thru Friday; 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Summer Program

Irving PAL started the Summer Hoops basketball program, for kids ages 10-14, in 2009. The success of the program spurred Irving PAL to start the Summer Kicks soccer program, for kids ages 8-14, shortly after. Both of the summer programs have four one-week camps and average a total of 100 kids each day. The camps are held at different satellite locations throughout the city.

Urban Outdoors

Irving PAL has partnered with Texas Parks & Wildlife to offer our kids the Urban Outdoors Program. Participants are trained in archery, camping, fishing, hunting, kayaking, mountain biking and rock climbing. The activities are a new experience for most of our kids, but an opportunity to appreciate the "Great Outdoors" for all. Outdoor recreation, education and conservation are the major focus in each of our activities. Participants wanting to attend the events, excluding archery, must register and attend the Fitness Class to be considered (archery participants do not have to be regular PAL attendees).  Urban Outdoors Schedule - (Summertime) Contact gym to sign up for events.
